Experience of clients in therapy
Client 1

Experience of a client who has been in therapy approximately two and a half years:

“It took me several attempts to have the courage to make that first appointment. At that time I felt really scared. Since then I have made many changes in my life and I am more able to look after myself, understand myself and others which enables me to be more effective in my relationships with other people.

I have dealt with problems in my past which I thought were impossible to do with a successful outcome. I am about to start a new life in a new area and am excited about the future. I am now happy that I made that first appointment.”

Client 2

“I decided to go into therapy following a traumatic period. My dad had recently died of cancer and shortly after my partner and I split up. I was absolutely devastated and felt I had nothing to live for. Eventually I realised I needed help.

I was very scared at the prospect of contact a therapist. I even thought that I was being over-dramatic and that therapy was only for “ill” people. However, when I spoke to May on the phone, I quickly felt at ease. We spoke for a while about my experiences, I found her very easy to talk to and I felt an immediate relief. It was wonderful to be able to talk openly to someone.

My first session in therapy was a complete surprise. I had gone with the intention of just unloading my problems in one go, I didn’t realise I would learn so much about myself. I remember being very excited at the prospect of taking control of my life.

That feeling has stayed with me all the time I have been in therapy. I am still learning about myself and I still learn things that help me in every day life. I am a very different person now. I have self esteem and confidence and I feel far better equipped to deal with any problems I may have to face.

I consider going into therapy to be the best thing that I have ever done for myself. It can be hard work at times, but it is definitely worth it.”
